EU Policies & Accession

The European Union has been a very important driving force in the development of environmental policy within the Member States and beyond. The enlargement process strengthened the environmental policies and related legal standards in countries of Central and Estern Europe which are now members of the EU and the same process is now taking place in the Western Balkans region and Turkey.

In order to join the EU, countries need to fully transpose and implement the EU legislation by the time of accession. In virtue of the its large acquis, environment is one of the core areas for transposition, implementation and enforcement. For this reason, we provide NGOs and other stakeholders with information and links to important reference documents and studies, which may be useful for their work.
